Los Sin Nombre: Blind leading blind
28/10/09 || Lord K Philipson
What kind of a fucken moniker is Los Sin Nombre? Is this the best my fellow countrymen could come up with for their band? Did they get it from this movie? Who watches shit like that anyways? Fags, that’s who. And transsexuals. There could possibly be a dwarf thrown into the mix as well. A dwarf with a mustache, possibly wearing a Nazi helmet for full effect. Obviously the moniker means “The nameless” (if the English title for the movie is to be trusted) in Norwegian, and ooooooh – that is some deep, deep, deep shit. Deeper than Heather Brooke’s fucken throat. Kazaam!!!
According to the press sheet this is a band (that should be) appealing to fans of Lamb Of God, The Haunted, Soilwork, In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Caliban, etc… I can like me some of those bands every now and then, and considering they are Swedish I actually expected some high quality shit when I first put this CD into my fantastic stereo to once again have my Cerwin Vega’s work for their money.
Los Sin Nombre is semi-firing on all cylinders and the press bullshit, for once, didn’t lie. Completely. If you are into any of those bands that were just name dropped in the paragraph above – Lost My Hombre will definitely send yer balls tickling on their way to Metalville. I won’t go analyzing this all too much since it’s not needed, the press sheet got it all laid out for ya as far as their sound goes. They have their metal down completely and in Pär Palm they have a vocalist who screams with the best of them when it comes to this kind of music. There’s alot of nice rhythm guitar work spitting out catchy riff after catchy riff on top of a fine production together with the band’s knack for writing good songs that holds a decent amount of groove.
You like In Flames? “Enemy” or “Raised in anger” (listen to the fantastic ending of this track, that’s some excellent shit!) is proof of the band doing that as well, though they are hardly playing in the same league and come across as a little heavier. You like The Haunted? “Ashes to ashes” got itself some The Haunted influences without sounding like a clone. You like Soilwork? Los Sin Nombre got a bit of Soilwork in everything they do, so you’ll dig this. I don’t hear much Lamb Of God, but hey – I’m sure they inspired LSN shitloads or whatever. Killswitch Engage and Caliban can go suck a farm of penises for all I care.
You should know by now what to expect from the Nombres; quality metal the very Swedish way with some clean vocals (that sound ok, not more) here and there and alot of tough-guy riffs and manly screams. Pretty much what I thought I was going to hear when popping this in, but I can’t say that they managed to keep my attention for the whole album. They are not that good.
